Describe what you do:
I am an artist turned chef/author. I write recipes, cookbooks, and a Substack, and I am on the cusp of opening my first restaurant at the New Museum.
How would you describe your entertaining style?
Inclusive, abundant, a little manic.
PLAYLIST on repeat (when prepping, cooking, hosting, or just hanging out).
Fela Kuti, Magnetic Fields, Dustry Springfield, Mac DeMarco, whatever my husband puts on (he's the music guy).
COCKTAIL(S) you love for the Holidays.
RECIPE you have in the works.
Banana cream pie with date nut crust, labneh whipped cream and burnt banana (from my last book, adapted for the restaurant project and soooo good).
DESSERT you always come back to.
Fruit + cream + store-bought cookies.
GO-TO STYLE when hosting.
Welcome to my test kitchen! I use my guests for valuable feedback on recipes, so everyone has to do their part and summon their inner food critic.
OBSESSION in the kitchen right now.
Misuse of Indian ingredients. I love to go to the Indian grocery store and get all the little crunchy snacks and spicy pickles and work them into my cooking in unpredictable ways.
DREAM dinner guests.
My grandparents (all passed). I wish I could cook them one incredible meal.
FAVORITE thing abou tthe Holiday season.
Giving gifts. I am a master gift giver.
NEXT project you have in the works!
I am launching a powdered salad dressing which has been in development for two years. I hope to get it out in the Spring!
